PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam

PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam (6th edition – v.2017)

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam is the second PRINCE2 exam.  It is a test of your ability to apply the PRINCE2 methodology and make appropriate judgements and analysis from a given project management scenario.  Like the Foundation exam, it is based on the PRINCE2 official manual:  “Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2.”  You have to pass the Foundation exam before you can take the Practitioner exam but this does not have to be on the same course.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam is a 2.5 hour, 9 question paper based on a case study.  The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam covers the entire PRINCE2 syllabus and the questions will expect you to know how the Themes, Processes and Principles are inter-related and can be applied to real life situations.  A question based on the Business Case theme, for example, is only using that theme as a start point.  68 marks are available and you require 38 marks to be awarded a pass. You can refer to the PRINCE2 manual during the exam.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam uses an Objective Testing format and you choose the right answer(s) by marking A, B, C etc on a sheet with a pencil.  After the exam the answer sheets are machine read to produce your result.

There are 2 types of question:

  • Classic multiple choice: They are the same style as the standard question in the Foundation exam.
  • Matching: This type of question gives you 2 lists and you have to match the answer.  For example; List 1 might say: “here is a list of PRINCE2 documents” while List 2 might provide a list of PRINCE2 processes.  The task would be to match each document to the process where it is created or used.  Everything in List 1 will be used, but items in List 2 can be used once, many times or not at all.

After the exam, the papers are collected by the trainer or proctor and sent to PeopleCert International for marking.  The worldwide average success is about 75%. At Okazy Consulting we achieve a better rate of around 80-85% – ask your Accredited Training Organization to provide this information.

PRINCE2 Practitioner exams are scheduled regularly across Canada, or you can take an accredited PRINCE2 e-learning course
